The Best Movies of 2006

In 2006 we welcomed in awesome movies, hilarious computer-animated films and some sequels of our favourite series. The best of them are as follows:

1. The Departed is the American crime drama with the highest score on IMDB along with The Prestige, holding a fortunate 8.5/10. They both enjoyed a commercial success as well with a gross of $289.8 million the former and $109.7 the latter, against relatively modest budgets. The Departed stars Leonardo DiCaprio, his twin, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Vera Farmiga and other important actors, while The Prestige stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Piper Perabo, Scarlett Johansson among others.

2. Cars became rapidly the most loved computer-animated film of 2006 creating a market of clothes, school bags and drawing books all having the famous Lightning McQueen as star. The comedy film was a commercial success with a gross of $462 million, with Joe Williams of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch commenting that the films “is powered by a human heart through a roadway of natural wonders and cultural signposts en route to the checkered flag.”

3. 300 brings us the brilliant Gerard Butler in a memorable role of the Greek king of the Greek city-state Sparta as the commander of the 300 men army fighting against the Persian “god-king” Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his 1000 times bigger army. The American fantasy war film is based on the 1998 eponymous comic series by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The commercial success came as a result of a greatly directed film grossing $456 million against a budget of $65 million.

Other movies worth mentioning are: Pan’s Labyrinth, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Children of Men, Happy Feet, The Illusionist. The Pursuit of Happiness and many other titles.
