The Best Movies of 2005

If 2004 has been a year of adventure movies, 2005 came with a diversity of genres, from supernatural action-thriller, stop-motion animated movies, superhero films, to high fantasy, romance and drama films.

1. One of my favourite movies, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has a great impact on the minds of both kids and adults. The message is a deep one, with an ending that proves again the victory of good in any circumstance. The high fantasy film enjoyed a critical and commercial success with a gross of $745 million against a budget of $170 million. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has 79% positive reviews praising the original and never-letting-down story, actors’ performances and the moral values transmitted in it.

2. Pride and Prejudice book’s story is for a quite long time out there, dating since 1813 and it has five screenings so far, the latest one being released in 2005. The plot is the well known masterpiece by Jane Austen, a writer who has not become famous until after her death. The life-story of the Bennet sisters has reached hard core readers worldwide and gathered them all in the cinemas on 16h of September 2015, assuring the film adaption a favourable feedback. It grossed $121,147,947 against a budget of $28 million and was highly praised by film critics such as Roger Ebert.

3. Remember, remember the 17th of March when V for Vendetta was released and grossed $150.5 million, receiving mostly positive reviews from critics. The movie received a score of 8.2/10 on IMDB placing it in the top movies of 2005. The film It stars Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea and John Hurt. The film tackles a political theme following Vendetta’s journey of destroying the government.

Other movies worth watching are: Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Serenity, Corpse Bride, Memoirs of a Geisha, Madagascar, Love of War and many others.
