“SCOTTISH film star Gerard Butler is at the centre of a row over the lack of racial diversity among the cast of the epic new film Gods Of Egypt.” says Martin Hannan for thenational.scot The uprising against the whitewashing of the Gods of Egypt cast didn’t bypass Butler and the fellow actors such as the English actor Rufus Sewell, actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, from Denmark and Australians Geoffrey Rush, Brenton Thwaites and Courtney Eaton. What a big fuss caused singer and actress Bette Midler who posted the following reprimand destinata to the directors and producrs: “Movie, #GodsOfEgypt in which everyone is white? Egyptians, in history and today, have NEVER been white. BRING BACK GEOGRAPHY!! It’s Africa!”

The Scottish didn’t say a ward to this remark in contrast to Robot director who washed his hands like Pontius Pilate affirming “it is clear that our casting choices should have been more diverse”. Will they change anything now? NO! Of course not! And I am totally happy with the chosen cast and besides me, there are many, many other people satisfied with what these actors promise… way too many for the negative comments to be taken into consideration. I can’t wait to see Gerard Butler taking on the role of the god of Darkness Set.

The “whitewashing” of characters is not a new phenomenon on Hollywood. Former characters were severely criticized before including John Wayne in the role of Genghis Khan in The Conquero, Morgan Freeman as the Irishman Red Redding in The Shawshank Redemption and Laurence Olivier as Othello. Despite these critics, the Earth is still spinning, plants are still growing, animals are still living and so on. Why would somebody be affected?
