From Brooklyn, With Love
I have just seen Brooklyn’s trailer and the first thoughts that came to my mind were: I must read the book before I watch the movie, I must read the book tonight, we finally have a decent romance to watch and the actors are gorgeous, it must be the 1950s atmosphere, costumes and make-up. The 2015 historical period drama film is based on the eponymous novel written by Colm Tóibín, directed by John Crowley, with a screenplay by Nick Hornby.
Brooklyn tells the emotional story of Eilis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through Brooklyn in an attempt to live the American Dream. But homesick prevents her to enjoy America as much as she thought she will, until love gets in her way. But soon her romance is disrupted by her past and Eilis has to choose between the two countries and the lives that exist within. The movie is scheduled for release on 6th of November 2015. It’s an international co-production between companies in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada. I personally can’t wait to watch it, but first, I’ll read the book.
“Brooklyn” is a wonderful romance, a nice change of pace in which people are permitted to act like real people instead of caricatures that serve as manipulative plot devices.” says Jonathan W. Hickman of dailyfilmfix.com.
